Mark Spannagel is one of California's most versatile and experienced political operators, having spent more than two decades inside the machinery of American government — from the California State Legislature to the United States House of Representatives and numerous campaigns.
Most recently, Mark served for thirteen years as Chief of Staff to Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-CA-01), one of California's long-serving and most distinctive members of Congress. In that capacity, Mark oversaw all legislative, communications, and constituent operations for California's 1st Congressional District, managing a team across Washington and Northern California while navigating high-stakes policy battles on agriculture, natural resources, water, energy, disaster recovery, tax reforms, native American policy and rural infrastructure. Mark helped make Rep. LaMalfa the chairman of the second largest organization in Congress — the bipartisan, bicameral Congressional Western Caucus.
Prior to his congressional service, Mark cut his teeth in California state politics, serving in senior staff roles in both the State Assembly and State Senate — including as Chief of Staff and district director.
A graduate of the University of California, Davis, Mark brings to Republic Strategy Group a rare combination of legislative, regulatory, and executive branch experience spanning California and Washington — a depth of access and expertise few can match.
